On Wednesday afternoon, April 1, the new season at De Vlieger windmill was opened by Aldermen Bianca Bremer (Heritage) and Philip van Veller (Real Estate) of the Municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg.
To do so, they ceremonially released the brake of the mill to put it back into operation. This year, it was limited to a beautiful photo, as unfortunately there was no wind to turn the mill.
However, this was more than compensated for by the enthusiasm generated during the presentation of a new information booklet for visitors about De Vlieger windmill: “Poldermolen De Vlieger in Voorburg in 42 questions and answers”. Mill volunteers Wim van Horssen and Aart Struijk wrote this booklet and presented the first copies to the aldermen.
The mill has been set up as a museum. From April 1 to November 1, interested parties can visit the mill every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon between 1:30 PM and 4:00 PM. For groups, it is possible to visit the mill outside those hours by appointment. Foreign visitors can receive a guided tour in English. School visits take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
